Are you covered for Skype Consultations?

Did you know that GSA and ATMS have recently collaborated to cover members under the Professional Indemnity Policy for online consultations?

Technology enabled care (TEC) involves the convergence of health care and technology. TEC is fast becoming an integral part of the solutions facing the health, care and wellness sector. Technology is proving a helpful integration tool to deliver safe, efficient and cost-effective care to clients.

As practitioners, there is still great worth in conducting initial face-to-face consultations to be able to provide a holistic healthcare treatment for your clients. Face-to-face consultations provide valuable clinical information. This useful clinical information can include clinical examination (e.g. blood pressure, pulse), observation, gait specifics, acknowledgment of physical ailments associated with nutritional deficiencies, recognition of emotion during interviews, establishment of rapport, among others.

While face-to-face consultations are often preferred, there are certain situations where an online audio-visual consultation enables more convenience and accessibility to healthcare delivery. Online audio visual consultations are a way to provide or assist in the provision of patient/client care at a distance using technologies including Skype, Lync, TeleHealth and TeleMedicine.

As part of your GSA / ATMS Professional Indemnity cover, you are covered for these online audio-visual consultations if you fit the criteria and follow the ATMS Code of Conduct. Specifically, financial accredited ATMS members may provide online audio-visual consultations with qualifications in:

  •  Counselling
  •  Herbal medicine
  •  Homeopathy
  •  Naturopathy
  •  Nutrition

It is important to recognise and abide by the ATMS Code of Conduct to ensure the dynamics between patient and clinician remain ethical and professional. There is an ATMS Online Audio-Visual Consultations Guideline providing more details and sets out ATMS’s expectations of members who practice online audio-visual consultations. Please click here to download the guidelines.

If you are not currently insured with GSA, now is a great opportunity to do so. Take advantage of our easy online system and our great customer service.

Important note to members: online and phone consultations are not recognised for health fund rebates.
