 Homoeopathy - Nov 2016

Definition of Treatment

Homœopathy is a holistic system of healthcare developed by German physician and chemist, Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), based on the Law of Similars “like cure like”. This law or principle is based on a long held belief as far back as Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, and other ancient healers such as Paracelsus, that substances that produce symptoms in a healthy individual can be used to treat similar symptoms in a sick person. Thus homœopathic treatment is believed to stimulate the body’s ability to fight infection and susceptibility to disease.

Homoeopathy follows definite scientific laws of preparation, prescription and cure. These medicines have been prepared in a specific way by a potentising or activating process involving dilution and succussion (shaking hard). The potency and dose varies, depending upon each person’s individual need, and the medicines are provided in either pilules or drops.

The assessment must include the development of a specific treatment plan as to the best course of treatment for the patient’s condition/injury. This treatment plan forms the basis of the clinical notes. These notes must be consistent with the ATMS Code of Conduct, the Unregistered Health Practitioner Act and the additional requirements set by the health funds.
